The intention of the project is to take the 'visuals' out of the party-content that they are usually connected with.
In general visuals are used to 'go with the music' at a public dance event, thus creating an ambience similar to watching video clips at home. In this form, visuals are not a proper stimulation for social interactions (dancing, talking, moving, ...), they tend to distract from the music.
Continuing with this out-of-context visual intention, all visual and audio material in the performance MACHINE CONSCIENCE comes from within the 'core' of the used media.
The production is based on feedback arrays. The same image cannot be reproduced twice.
In a setting in which the medium is not interchangeable - the medium is the message.
In a predefined space video beamers, TV sets, video cameras and computers create an audiovisual environment. This setting generates projections through feedback-arrays, light sources and interaction of the audience.
Typical boundaries get dissolved, all elements merge together to form a new, altered space. The audio material is generated along the same implications as the visual (feedbacks) - in consideration of a script for the timeline/storyboard of the production. The performance is inspired by the hypnotic effects of the 'mind-machines' - thus, the title.
An alteration of the audiences' state of consciousness or mood might occur. The audio artist reacts on the audience and the visual surroundings. People are encouraged to participate in the creation/transformation of the visual content. They start producing their own content - instead of consuming someone else's. It's democratic VJ'ing. The only real-world material will be you, the audience.
