Invited by donaufestival, Austria’s foremost festival for contemporary music, performance and art, Rainer Prohaska transformed the city park’s gazebo, adjacent to the festival’s concert halls, into a walk-in sculpture. By means of built-ins and add-ons, Rainer Prohaska reclaimed the gazebo for the duration of the festival as a public meeting space for festival- goers and city residents alike.
In its form, Gazebo Extensions was a hybrid of the preexisting structure and elements of Rainer Prohaska’s
TOY KIT ARCHITECTURE. The flexible and reversible construction method combined with the built-ins and add-ons to create a new spatial structure. The foreign objects hid in part the gazebo’s original form and explored the existing structure’s potential for spatial experimentation.
