As par of donaufestival
Curated by

Commissioned work
Invited by donaufestival, Austria’s foremost festival
for contemporary music, performance and art, Rainer Prohaska transformed the city park’s gazebo,
adjacent to the festival’s concert halls, into a walk-in sculpture. By means of built-ins and add-ons, Rainer
Prohaska reclaimed the gazebo for the duration of the festival as a public
meeting space for festival- goers and city residents alike.
In its form, Gazebo Extensions was a hybrid of the preexisting structure and elements of Rainer Prohaska’s
TOY KIT ARCHITECTURE. The flexible and reversible construction method combined with the built-ins and add-ons to create a new spatial structure. The foreign objects hid in part the gazebo’s original form and explored the existing structure’s potential for spatial experimentation.
