Commissioned work
During Toronto’s Luminato arts festival, a fleet of mobile cooking stations in the city’s public sphere provided a space for people to cook and eat together.
Pedestrians were drawn away from the street and into a mutual cooking performance. The arrangements and stations with simple instructions enabled a goal-oriented cooking process with as much participation as possible. In addition to handwritten plaques, infographics and flowcharts, instruction was provided by Rainer Prohaska and Luminato staff.
The meals that were prepared provided impetus for cultural exchange. Toronto’s local cuisine was a source of inspiration for Rainer Prohaska’s process instructions while participants of the Toronto Carretilla Initiative were confronted with imports from Austrian cuisine.
