Since 2002 he has been realising projects that artistically deal with issues of ecology and sustainability. The NPO "FUTURAMA LAB" was founded for these works, which advocates an increased thematisation of various SDGs of the UN in the field of art. In 2007, he built a research ship for the Danube for the first time, with which since then 27 artists have travelled from Austria to the Black Sea. This Artist &amp; Scientist in Residence program is called 'MS-FUSION' and takes place once a year in the Danube region between Linz and Sulina. Rainer Prohaska is a regular guest at international festivals such as the Luminato Festival in Toronto, the SIAF in Sapporo, the Steirischer Herbst in Graz,&nbsp;the Donaufestival in Krems and the ARS Electronica in Linz.In Vienna, works have been realised for the Albertina, the Künstlerhaus, the KUNST HAUS WIEN, the Long Night of Museums, the MAK and the Kunsthalle Wien.A selection of the international exhibitions &amp; projects over the last 24 years: Opening of the 59th Biennale di Venezia, Austrian Cultural Forum Rome, Graz Cultural Year 2020, 798-Art District Beijing, Himalaya Art Museum Shanghai, Hong Kong Museum for Fine Arts, V. Operating at the intersection of art, technology, and urbanism, it questions dominant concepts of mobility while proposing playful, sustainable visions for how we might move through the future. The project unfolds in three formats: (1) workshops for building mobile sculptures, (2) rides as performative interventions in public space, and (3) exhibitions presenting the vehicles and the ideas behind them. Experimentation, humor, Dada-inspired strategies, and collaborative creative processes are at the heart of the project. Using simple construction methods, reclaimed materials, and resource-conscious production, The Cars We Like develops site-specific, sustainable mobility concepts. Durability, reuse of components, and environmentally responsible logistics are essential principles. The project also explores the concept of "Neuro-Mobility"—how new forms of movement influence perception, the nervous system, and our embodied experience of mobility. By reimagining the automobile as a work of art, The Cars We Like invites audiences to rethink the relationship between people, technology, and the urban environment. At the heart of the exhibition is a new site-specific installation by the Vienna-based artist Rainer Prohaska, created for the museum's entrance area. For many years, Prohaska has developed mobile sculptures and experimental vehicles that connect art, technology, and the social dimensions of mobility. His works are often constructed from reclaimed materials and activated through performative interventions in public space. In 2023, he created a floating sculpture in Solothurn that, after being exhibited inside a church, was transformed into a raft on the River Aare, allowing visitors to cross the river aboard a work of art. Kaltstart is complemented by works by Martin Reukauf, Pierre Alain Münger (PAM), and Reto Emch, who approach the subject of the vehicle from painterly, sculptural, and performative perspectives. The images in the slideshow are from the Danube trip in summer 2024. The MS-FUSION vessel as partner of Liquid Becomings is the WINNER of the&nbsp;European Pavilion 2024 commissioned by the European Cultural Foundation From 27 August to 1 November 2024, the MS FUSION, an artist-in-residence ship, sailed the Danube, Rhine and Tagus rivers. Liquid Becomings is not a traditional pavilion or building, nor is it a space to be filled. It's a time-based liquid pavilion, a river of journeys, made up of small boats that travelled along four of Europe's great rivers - the Danube, the Rhine, the Tagus and the Vistula - through thirteen different countries. The boats hosted 32 artists from 17 countries. Along the way they met communities and engaged with civil society to explore new, joyful ways of being together and building a better Europe. Liquid Becomings culminated in a three-day event in Lisbon, where we shared and showed what we had discovered on our liquid journeys. Several hundred pieces of standardised VT20 formwork girders from the construction industry were repeatedly rearranged, stacked, layered, assembled and dismantled by the participants over the course of the event. The sculptural arrangement changed constantly. The yellow wooden elements, each 245 cm long, were moved without the aid of electrical equipment. Carrying, lifting, placing and securing were carried out as collaborative activities and gave rise to different sculptural figures. What was essential in this artistic action was not a definitive form, but the experiment, the working process and the collaboration. &nbsp; Sustainable practice plays a central role in this project, both in the content of the artwork and in its production. In order to avoid the consumption and subsequent recycling or disposal of materials for the work, all components come from a pool of materials that will be returned to the pool at the end of the project. The planned installation dealed with concepts of the separation of man and nature, which are familiar from the colloquial language through terms such as 'back to nature' (have we ever been away from nature?) or 'nature protection' (who is to be protected from whom?), but whose actual meaning receives too little attention, as this is counterproductive for an ecological and humane future. From a current perspective of sustainable strategies for a stable humanoid existence, such ideas of separation should be viewed critically. Since humanity has mentally distanced itself from the 'surrounding world', there is an obvious lack of holistic, synergetic approaches to existence.
